Water for Elephants
Pages: 313-325

After the stampede the workers try to gather all the animals. Uncle al disappears and the cops show up. The animals get rounded up and the towns people feel better now. But the kitchen runs out of food and soon another circus (the Nesci Brothers Circus) comes to take all their things. Jacob is worried about Marlena and money and stuff so he calls dean Wilkins and tells him everything and the dean says Jacob can come back and write the exams. When Jacob goes back to the lot he sees the sheriff trying to see Rosie and gets mad and says that she is dumb and doesn't do anything. The Nesci elephant man comes out and gets frustrated when he can't get Rosie to do anything so Jacob gets to keep Rosie. While he is trying to decide to how tell Marlena about this, she runs off to the menagerie where they are trying to sell her horses but she stops them and gets them back. Jacob calls the dean again for help but he doesn't have any ideas of what to do. She tells Jacob and he acts like its all good and tells her about Rosie and Marlena understands. Jacob is freaking out now because he has to take care of a pregnant woman, a dog, 11 horses and an elephant and he's homeless and jobless. They're planning on getting married as soon as possible and Marlena suggests they go to join ringling. Marlena goes to make the call while some workers take apart a tent. However, in one of the tents uncle Al's dead body is found as he committed suicide. Marlena and Jacob also take bobo with them. Back to the present, Jacob is upset about missing the circus especially because it was his oldest son Simon who was born in a circus and spent the first 7 years of his life on one. He was born with red hair which Jacob really liked. He is sick and tired of waiting in the lobby alone so he get his Walter and goes across the streetto the circus undetected. The ticket master is some punk kid who tries to stop Jacob but the manager comes and gets Jacob a ringside seat. The manager knows about the stampede and is very excited when he hears that Jacob lived through it and invites Jacob to have a drink with him after the show whic Jacob agrees to and he is very happy.

I think it was incredibly stupid of Jacob and Marlena to take the animals. Yes they're special to them and what not but they're going to have a kid and that kid should be their number one priority and the most important thing in their lives. I like how Jacob finally got to the circus. It shows how persistence and taking matters into your own hands really gets things done.

I read well and I am near the end of the book.
