Water for Elephants

Marlena realizes she's been so stupid and Jacob says no it's just hard to think a person would do something so bad. They go back to the lot separately and Jacob goes back to his room. He tells Walter everything that happened with uncle al and Walter is mad and wants to know what's going to happen to him. Jacob says he can come with them but Walter is skeptical and is worried because people are starving. Jacob goes back to his job until he is called to uncle Al's office. Uncle al asks how progress is for getting Marlena and August back together and Jacob says its good and uncle al is happy but surprised and asks Jacob how he's going to do it and Jacob says August has to stay away from her so she will miss him and want to go back on her own and how it has to be no pressure and all her own idea and stuff like that. Uncle al buys it and they drink a brandy. For the show, Marlena covers her eye with makeup but they don't do the elephant show which makes a lot of people mad but the bouncers take care of it before it gets too out of hand. August isn't seen except during meals when he sits at Earl's table but he is soon moved to uncle Al's car because all he does it stare at Marlena who sits with Jacob. However, August is becoming very creepy and obsessed because he sneaks glances at her and pins her to the floor trying to put the ring back on her finger. Jacob tells uncle al that that just ruined everything and August disappears for 3 days and uncle al is furious. Jacob and Marlena continue to do bad things wherever and whenever they can. Jacob has a nightmare of Queenie being attacked by badgers and he saves her and they try to go back into the train but its blocked by alligators and the badgers come up from the swamp and block the other side. The train is raided for the first time and everyone is sad because all the alcohol is dumped onto the ground and they are run out of town. The next stop, Rosie doesn't perform and the people get really mad and want refunds and the police come and uncle al is surrounded and has no choice but to refund and is run out of town. The next day is payday but the workers and performers don't get paid only the bosses do. Walter is mad because he had to get paid so he has money after they drop off Camel and Jacob runs away. Jacob realizes he needs to figure something out. He goes to the cookhouse for dinner and Marlena is there. He asks her what's wrong and she says she thinks she's pregnant. Earl comes to get Jacob and brings him to uncle Al's car and uncle al is mad about how long it's taking Marlena to go back to August  and tells Jacob that he's going to do it his way from now on. Earl then escorts Jacob outside and he's worried and Earl apologizes. Diamond joe tells Jacob to leave because August is coming and he's mad today. Jacob leaves but talks to Marlena first because she is going to perform and he's worried about her but she says she'll be fine. He stays under the bleachers to watch the show but there is another guy there who is looking up a woman's skirt and Jacob is so angry at that, he takes the guy and drags him out. Then, Rosie charges at the exit where Jacob is and Jacob jumps out of the way. The crowd thinks its part of the show but it's not. August hits Rosie many times and grabs Marlena who kicks and hits him to let her go but it's no use. Jacob tries to help but blackie grabs a hold of him and something hits Jacobs head very hard and he is knocked out.

I think it's interesting how the performers are getting a taste of what it's like to not get paid. And it's interesting what Jacob said about the alcohol. He is how status had nothing to do with it because all the people had their alcohol taken away and they were all upset when it was gone. I figured Marlena would get knocked up because they keep doing bad things which I think is wrong.

I read well
